Don't Quit Your Day Job, Jack

And, hey, you know, Jack, there's a lot of people, single mothers for example, or any one of all those hundreds and hundreds of thousands of children apparently living in poverty who can't afford a nice axe like that one you've got there.

I suggest a pawn shop cheeseburger in the 40 buck range would be more in keeping with the message, know what I mean? With a gunny sack to schlep it around in. Find a suitable black disabled lesbian adoptive single mother to donate your current guitar to.

Always glad to help, Buddy, after all, I have your best interests at heart, you know that.

Making a Point of Missing the Point

"Under the Graves Strategy, it (Bill C232) would ensure that the West, the fastest-growing region in Canada, is shut out from yet another national institution. And any Westerner who objected could be called a bigot and a rube and "anti-French", to the delight of those more cosmopolitan ridings where Ignatieff might have a chance."
"In one of Graves' private briefings to the Liberals, that he later boasted about to the Globe and Mail, he outlined a strategy to demonize Western Canada …"
"… To Ignatieff, forced bilingualism (like Bill S220) is a tool to beat up anglophone westerners ... to the delight of Liberal voters in Montreal and Toronto."
"Sort of like Keith Davey's Liberal strategy that he articulated for Pierre Trudeau: "Screw the West, we'll take the rest.""

Now, I have all the time in the world for Alberta’s Ezra Levant, but he is a Federalist. That means that while he may fulminate against Count Iggy and Taliban Jack for 'beating us up' to win votes in Upper and Lower Canada, he’s not quite going to mention why that’s such a winning tactic, why it “delights” voters there. Its like he'll give you '2+2' but he's hoping you'll join him in skipping the '=4' bit.

But that’s okay, you have me to do that.

Ontario and Quebec like it when Ottawa 'beats you up' because those people do not regard you as their compatriot; they have no warm all-in-it-together feeling for you, nothing like that, in fact if they consider you at all, they dislike you.

Your purpose in life is to be their ATM, just dispense the cash. Quietly.

There ya go.

An Affront To Democracy?

One of the more amusing aspects of the current uproar out in Imperial HQ Oddawha is the oft-repeated charge that a coalition of Stephi, Lefty and Gills would be a "disgrace to Canadian democracy", an affront to "141 years of democracy" and so forth.

What some people have failed to grasp is this:
Such a coalition is perfectly legal under the constitution du canerduh. That it would be a highly undemocratic way of deciding who will run the show simply underlines the basic fact:
Canada is no more a proper democracy than it is a proper federated state, its an illusion of both, but it is neither.

Having Mrs Windsor's stand in pick who's going to fill the office of all powerful dictator, known by the quaint term "prime minister" is most appropriate for a system devised by people who were scared fartless of democracy, or "mob rule" as they termed it. The fathers of confounderation would approve entirely, to be sure. No mob rule going on here, no siree. This is even better than the undemocratic way the undemocratic dictator is usually selected.

Now, in fairness, I must admit that many people's union shop education coupled with endless hours of CSI Altoona, Are You Smarter Than Your Dog? and so forth have left them ill equipped to realize that if trudging to the polls every now and then were all there is to democracy, Zimbabwe would qualify, but more really should have obtained a better grip on reality by now. I suppose one should never underestimate the power of brainwashing.
Oh well, better late than never.
That sound you hear is shattering illusions.

Tories Brace for Fearmongering

No truth to rumours this image to figure large in Liberal ads

The Harpo Tories are emailing their members (and those they think are members ;D ) drumming up cash to counter the predictable torrent of attack ads being unleashed on the consciousness of voters.

"Dear Mr. In North Burnaby

As more and more Canadians abandon the Liberals, the Liberal attack machine is revving up. They will spend the final two weeks of this election campaign trying to scare Canadians just like they've done before. As their campaign unravels, their attacks are becoming more and more absurd. We must take advantage of these opportunities as they present themselves. I'm emailing you today with an urgent request for you to make a contribution of $200 or $100 on-line right now, by following this link.

We need your support because we have an opportunity right now to counter the Liberal attack machine as it begins to over-reach and make more and more preposterous claims about the Conservative election campaign.

Just this weekend, Yasmin Ratansi's absurd statements that Stephen Harper ‘doesn't really like women', underscore the Liberals' increasingly desperate attempts to gain traction with the electorate. Why are they so desperate? With a $12 billion hole in their campaign platform, support among Canadians shrinking and at least 30 members of their caucus and candidates questioning the wisdom of the so-called Green Shift, it's not surprising at all.

Right now, we have an opportunity to show the Liberal campaign strategy for what it is: the real politics of division in this election. We need your help to do it, so please, follow this link right now and make an –on-line contribution of $200 or $100. Your contribution will help your Conservative Campaign team buy print, radio and television air time and expose the Liberal increasing desperation to Canadians.

Now is the time we need your support the most, I hope you will answer the call.
Sincerely,
Irving R. Gerstein, C. M., O.Ont
Chair, Conservative Fund Canada

P.S. - With election day a short 13 days away, your support is most urgent. Please send the most generous contribution you can today by following this link to our secure on-line donations page."

Personally, I've developed a little gluttony game I quite enjoy to go with all this. Every time I hear some manure chute like Ujjal Dosanjh link Harpo and the evil wicked nasty tool of the devil Bush () I have a cookie.

NDP Vow To Get Tough On Crime

The trouble is, the NDP have had opportunities in the past to get tough on crime and, well, passed on them.
Remember Bill C-275 introduced in the Commons November 15, 2004?
Sure you do, Carley’s Law. Yeah, that one, getting tough on drunken drivers. Here's Burnaby-Douglas NDP MP Bill Siksay explaining in an email why he and his party voted against Carley’s Law.:

"Dear Mr. In North Burnaby

Thank you for your recent message regarding Bill C-275.

I did not vote for this bill because I was concerned that it removed the concept of criminal intent from consideration in cases where someone may have left the scene of the accident for innocent reasons. I also have difficulty with mandatory minimum sentences. I believe that there is good reason to allow judges to exercise discretion when sentencing by taking into consideration the particular circumstances of the case. I am also not convinced, from my understanding of the experience of those jurisdictions that have mandatory minimum sentence, that they have been effective in ensuring convictions or in deterring or preventing the crimes to which they are attached. There is also mixed opinion here in Canada as to whether a further extension of mandatory sentences in the area of impaired driving will have the desired effect.

I have attached a copy of the speech made by the NDP's Justice Critic, Joe Comartin, MP, on this bill. Mr. Comartin goes into greater detail on some of the concerns we had with the bill.

It was not easy to vote against this bill given the horrible consequences to far too many Canadians of drunk driving. But I do believe that I did so for very serious reasons.

Thank you for taking the time to contact me on this important issue.

Sincerely yours,
Bill Siksay, MP
Burnaby-Douglas"

Can't you just see Cactus Jack Layton and Buffalo Bill Siksay ridin' into town, roundin' up all the ornery, no-good varmints and packin' 'em off to the hoosegow?
No?
Me neither.
